How to create images with a transparent background
When creating a custom product, it is important to make sure your design does not have an unwanted background. In this article, we explain how to create a transparent background so there is no unwanted white or colored area around your design.
Why is a transparent background important?
If a background is part of your image, it may also be printed or engraved. This can make the finished product look different from what you had in mind. You may also experience issues when uploading your image to our online design tool. For example, an image that contains color may appear completely black after being uploaded.
To prevent these issues, it is important to use an image with a transparent background. This means that only your logo or image is visible in the file, without a white or colored area around it.
Tools for removing a background
You don't need to purchase expensive software to remove a background. There are several tools that let you remove image backgrounds for free or offer a free trial, including:
Once you have removed the background, save your image as a PNG. This preserves the transparent background and prevents an unwanted area from appearing around your design. JPG/JPEG files do not support transparency and are therefore not suitable if you need an image without a background.
Removing a background with online tools
Online tools such as Canva and Photopea make it easy to remove an unwanted background. Please note that Canva's background removal feature is a paid feature.
Here's how it works:

Removing a background with AI
You can also use AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini to remove the background from an image.
For example, you can use the following prompt:
“Convert this image to a PNG file with a transparent background. Keep the rest of the image exactly as it is. Do not make any other changes and maintain the original image quality.”
Always check the finished image to make sure you are happy with the result.
